From designing your personal wedding ceremony months in advance, to telling guests how to throw confetti and calming anxious nerves on the big day- the role of a Celebrant is so much more than just the legal stuff. Tasmania's newest resource for Celebrants has opened its virtual doors, offering a suite of resources to support celebrants in learning the art of officiating ceremonies.
Behind the WeddingCeremonyStore is one of Tasmania's most knowledgeable celebrants, Maria Bond. Dedicated to sharing the love in what has typically been an insular industry, her resources are relevant not just for Tasmanian and Australian Celebrants, but international Celebrants too.
" I will NEVER forget the first ceremony I officiated. It was one of the scariest things I had ever done! Of course I had completed all my training and legally knew how to officiate a wedding ceremony, but I had no idea of the 'art' of officiating a wedding ceremony. I didn't know where to stand or where or when to move, I literally felt frozen."
Now, having officiated over 200 ceremonies, she has a wealth of knowledge that she wished she had found when she first started in the industry. "I desperately wanted to peak over the shoulder and get a birds eye view of someone officiating a wedding- so I created the products that I had always wanted and could never find."
TheWeddingCeremonyStore offers over 60 digital products; from videos, emails templates, workflows, checklists and even draft ceremony scripts. Maria has expertly distilled her knowledge into this suite of materials, and provides guidance every step of the way. The store offers more than just how to run a ceremony, but also provides products to support running a small business.
With a background in counselling in sexual assault and family violence, Maria became a celebrant to counterbalance some of the emotions that weighed on her through her profession, and found that she loved the feeling of guaranteeing happiness when she officiated wedding ceremonies.
"Whether they are speaking paragraphs of words to each other or simply stating the legal components, every. single. time. my heart melts.... I can see and feel their love in that moment, even if they are shy, they have giggled a bit, they have looked away, or made mistakes, those words are the moment that it gets real... and it's beautiful.... every time."
With the benefits of being able to manage a growing family, it also meant she could have the flexibility of running her own business.
Thinking of growing your wedding business?
Maria's advice is to back yourself. By that she means know who you are and own it. "Don't get caught up in who you think you should be. If you really back yourself and confidently project who you are then your type of couples will gravitate to you."
