Maria & Simon
WE LOVE TO HEAR HOW YOU MET! WAS IT LOVE AT FIRST SITE, BEST FRIENDS, SLOW BURN!?
Best friends for years, we had agreed on not getting married initially but life's decisions tend to change when you want to have children and also have a surname you're sick of spelling!
TELL US ABOUT YOUR ENGAGEMENT! WHO POPPED THE QUESTION?
Simon isn't one for grand gestures and his proposal was honestly perfection for us and really tells a story about us a couple. It was the morning of my birthday and both of us were having a lazy morning around the kitchen bench in pyjamas. He had a huge box wrapped (as my birthday present) which obviously I wasn't suspicious about at all because he generally aces birthday gifts and I definitely wasn't expecting a ring box to be in this huge box he passed over to me casually. Obviously box after box after box I started to get a bit annoyed until the last one, I don't think he even officially asked me but the beautiful big Aquamarine spoke for itself. I think I just cried and cried to be honest.
The proposal was simple, beautiful and understated. It was important but just another day, just like our elopement.
These acts don't define us as a team but just really celebrate the love we have for one another.
DESCRIBE THE PLANNING PROCESS/LEAD UP TO YOUR BIG DAY.
We always knew that we wanted it to be 100% about us, without any fuss, no stress, no expectations from family, and probably the big one, no opinions.
Thats the beauty of having a pretty secret micro wedding, you really get to focus on yourselves as a couple. Take the time to think of all the things you REALLY want without any outside noise. Being in the wedding industry myself I knew first hand exactly who I wanted to be involved in the day, no compromising on that.
I actually ended up choosing the date of our elopement based on every vendors availability. The special humans I chose as my vendors are people that I trust 100% and I wouldn't change ANY detail.
(Big shouts to the vendors below the pics!)
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE MOMENT OF THE DAY? BOTH OF YOU TO ANSWER!
We share the same favourite moment:
Watching our parents walk in to find us in wedding attire, they had ABSOLUTELY no idea. We had obviously tee'd them up to come to "family dinner" at our house so that we knew they wouldn't accidentally make plans.
After the ceremony I texted the family and told them the power was out at our home, so we couldn't cook, then I simply followed it up with "We've booked dinner at MACQ01 instead" and thankfully they all showed up.
It was the best to see their eyes light up when they realised what was going on, and the fact that they didn't have to stress about finding special outfits, getting ready etc - it was just SIMPLE, they came, enjoyed an amazing meal, celebrated love and went home to bed without any fuss, clean up or bills.

Gelisa from HoneyFig is a literal lifesaver, she takes care of things you don't even consider and her vision and execution matches what you have in your own head, even if you aren't sure about it.
Florals from Soph at The Flower People, what a visionary. Even when just after she had completed a set up and left MACQ01 - they toppled over. She returned, rescued them all and re-located the flowers somewhere less breezy which ended up being a better location for our ceremony on the MAC01 balcony.
The Love Lab team was a DREAM and captured our wedding in a way that we couldn't even dream of. HOT TIP, if you want a videographer, never ever compromise on it.
The most beautiful celebrant Merren from CintaCelebrateLove, I honestly couldn't think of anyone more perfect to bring us together with genuine and heartfelt words, truly such a special human and if you want someone who FEELS the moments, look no further for your celebrant.
My glam squad. WOW, being a makeup artist myself it's so hard to TRUST someone to touch your face. I really didn't want to do my own makeup, I knew that 100%. In my opinion there is NO ONE else than Liv Rodgers. If you want the dream team Liv & Ben O'Brien then all I can say is, book early, or book your date based on when they are available. GONE are weddings just being on a Saturday too, especially for an elopement of course.
FRED + HANNAH - possibly the most FUN photographers i've ever worked with! I couldn't fathom a different option for us, not being naturals in front of the camera, I was so intent on ensuring that we had fun and it was honestly like they weren't even photographing us, similarly to the The Love Lab team, Simon and I didn't notice them and weren't self conscious at all. Photography style is super important, I love F + H's effortless candids and the colours and textures they find.
I can't describe the service at MACQ01, it just perfection. The staff that evening and Old Wharf went ABOVE AND BEYOND, especially with the children.
In a nutshell. BEST. NIGHT. EVER
