“Our day was beyond perfect, we were surrounded by our family and friends who were all so excited to celebrate the love we share. Each vendor we chose created more than we could have ever imagined, paying careful attention to every detail, and captured in our beautiful photographs. Our ceremony was completely us; relaxed, intimate and filled with love and laughter. It told the story of our love and reminded us how blessed we are to have such special people in our lives. Our dear friend wrote a poem, especially for our ceremony, and delivered it with such love, respect and eloquence. Our friends and family still speak of the beauty, intimacy and stunning details of our ceremony. From the second our ceremony ended the party started, with drinks and award winning gin served in the breathtaking barn at Shene Distillery. It was perfect to have such a relaxed vibe as we greeted our guests for the first time as husband and wife. Our guests then departed on the bus to get to our amazing reception venue, Coal River Farm. Our reception continued to provide the perfect mix of relaxation and partying; outstanding food and drinks, lots of good (and bad) dancing and heart-warming speeches from some of the incredible people in our lives. We had speeches from each of our fathers, the best man and the maid of honour: It took our breath away from both feeling so overjoyed by the relationships we have and from all the laughs, as you can see in our photos! We also had my brother MC our reception. It was a great choice as he made the night run so smoothly, all while entertaining our guests with some light banter! It was just what we wanted.
If I had to choose, my favourite moment of the day was when Josh and I had photos with our bridal party and just the two of us. These moments were so special and thanks to our photographer, videographer and the amazing staff at Shene Estate, these first few moments as husband and wife were so natural and were captured candidly. Our bridal party was small but meaningful – we each had our two best friends and they each made the most profound impact on our day, we are incredibly grateful for all that they did! Of course, I can’t leave out dancing the night away with our family and friends at our reception; this part of this night is so special and forms the happiest memories when you get to celebrate the hours of planning that goes into your big day! I often wish I could go back and relive this part of the night – thank goodness for our video!!
Planning our wedding was both stressful and exciting and one of the most important things to us was that my dad would be there to celebrate too. My Dad had been undergoing treatment for cancer for 3 years prior to our wedding and unfortunately we knew he didn’t have a lot of time left. In November 2018, after we received the news of his health declining again, we decided to move our date forward twelve months to the 10th March 2019. It felt so much crazier when we had less than six months to rebook our vendors, venues and to finish the planning process, we are so thankful Dad could attend and are forever grateful to have such beautiful photos to remember these precious moments together. Dad passed 5 weeks after our wedding which was and still is incredibly difficult after being on such a high with our wedding day – but the photos, video and memories of our day are an amazing thing to be able to have while we work through our grief. Keeping the day about us and why we were there in the first place was our major focus while planning the whole event. Also, to celebrate love; not only the love Josh and I share, but the love from and for our family and friends was a major influence on how we made the choices for our day.
Our advice to couples who would like to plan a similar wedding to ours would be to always remember what’s important to you and why this celebration is so special – whatever that may mean to you as a couple. For us, it was the people that have helped us get to this point in our lives: our friends and family, It was also a nice touch for us to have our fur baby, Murphy, to come along and be a part of our day! I think making choices that reflect your style as a couple is so important to feel emotionally and physically connected to the day. The vendors you choose have a major influence on your day – so choose the ones you think will help your day to have the feel you want it to. My final piece of advice is to appreciate how photos and videos can perfectly capture your experience. It all happens so quickly and having the photos and video footage to look back on is so special! So don’t hold back here; go for the photographer and videographer that you love! It is so worth it!! Most of all, remember to relax and enjoy – it’s your day!!!!
